CDL RAILROAD TECHNICIAN CASPER, WYOMING

Have your CDL but hate being stuck in a truck all day? Want to work outdoors on a two-person crew and see something new every day? The Railroad Technician position with Meridian Oil & Equipment is a manual labor position that travels throughout multiple states - you'll drive some and work outdoors A LOT.

This position is based out of the Meridian Oil & Equipment warehouse in Wyoming.

Frequently asked questions:

What does a RR Technician do?

Railroad Technicians travel 1-2 weeks at a time to service oil and grease lubricators all along Class I rail lines in 14 states. Our crews are responsible for everything related to the units, from keeping them topped off with oil or grease to keeping every component pumps, sensors, solar panels, and more in good working order.

Some technicians are placed on a service/maintenance crew(s).  These crews keep the units up, while others chase down alerts and alarms from units that need immediate attention. Our crews also remove and replace components when maintenance of way gangs come through for track service.

All Meridian employees work in all weather conditions and need to be able to move freely.  This includes bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting 50 lbs. on a regular basis. No experience?  We will train you!  Being mechanically inclined is a plus, and you'll need to be comfortable with technology.  If you get along well with others and enjoy long days of challenging work, this job is for you!

What does it pay?

This is an hourly job with the opportunity of working overtime. Technicians starting out with a Class A CDL usually make anywhere from $600-$1000 per week. Benefits after 90 days include: Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Life Insurance, 401(k), Paid Holidays, and PTO which begins accruing from day 91.

It says "CDL required" but is it really?

Absolutely! Our heavy duty pickup trucks require at least a Class B with air brakes. Our heavier equipment requires a Class A, so that makes you an even stronger candidate. Unfortunately, we are NOT considering applicants who only have a permit OR applicants who do not have an air brakes endorsement on their CDL.

How much travel is there?

Plan to be gone anywhere from 5-10 days at a time. The most typical schedule is out Monday-Friday, off Saturday and Sunday. If you're out 10 days in a row, you typically have 4 days off in a row after that. For 2-3 months of the year, you may be gone up to 3 weeks at one time, followed by 1 week off. We cover your hotel stays and pay a $25 per diem when traveling.

Any chance of moving up in the company?

For sure! Meridian Oil & Equipment is growing exponentially.  We've more than doubled our staff in the last year and more than quadrupled our revenue. When we need a new crew leader, we choose from the Railroad Technicians whom are already working for us. When we need a supervisor over multiple crews, we choose from our crew leaders. We're looking to hire Railroad Technicians who are hungry to work hard and have leadership potential.

I want to apply, but I don't have a CDL. Will you still consider me?

No.  All applicants MUST have their CDL with air brakes.
